Byron Lavoy Cockrell (1935–2007) was an American rocket scientist and engineer who conducted research and development of micro-motors for solid propellant rockets〔Byron L. He was one of four children and grew up in Clay County, Alabama.〔(Willa Cockrell's Obituary ), Rootsweb.com〕 He attended Clay County High School and later earned a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Auburn University. In 1957, he married Hazel Goodman of Lineville, Alabama. They eventually had four children, daughters, Julie and Gwendolyn, and sons, Jeffrey and Bruce.〔(Hazel Cockrell's Obituary ), Acenstors.com〕
